“Mathematics is the music of reason.” – James Joseph Sylvester
The Maths department would like to convey a huge ‘Well Done’ to the year 10 students for their hard work over the recent modules preparing for the MOCK examinations. With over 95% attendance for the maths exams, it really demonstrated how seriously the students were taking these assessments. To further support their learning and to develop as independent learners, each student will be receiving a feedback sheet which clearly shows the topics that they were successful in, and the topics that they need to focus their revision on for next academic year.
This year is coming to an end so it is time to celebrate all the hard work that goes into Form time by Tutors and students alike.
Very well done to Year 7 - 9 for completing the Numeracy Ninja course with £20 Amazon vouchers to be distributed to those who stood out for their determination to improve!
Numeracy will always be the foundation upon which all other Maths is based so it is vitally important that we practise these skills at every opportunity.
Year 10 completed the ‘Year on Finance for Life’ in Module 6 with a project based on income and the cost of living. They too will be receiving prizes for the best one including their reflection on just how far (or not) their hard earned cash would go.
The programme will continue into Year 11 when they look more particularly at student finance and about continuing their education post 16.
The Maths Club intervention, that is now complete, has been very successful with 87% of students achieving a higher score than the beginning of the programme in Module 2, despite time being limited and a period of Distance Learning getting in the way, we are very proud of our students and their level of participation!
A reward event was hosted for them in which they decorated tiles(with a Maths theme of course) that will be fired, put into a display and mounted on a wall in school for September. Hopefully this will inspire future generations of students to realise that there is no such word as ‘can’t’. Watch this space for the Newsletter next year for a photo of their efforts.
So after another interesting year dealing with Covid, it only remains for me to congratulate all our students on their resilience and to wish students and staff a happy, healthy and safe summer to be ready for a full year of learning in September.
Mrs Cooper
A massive well done to all students on completing their MYP end of year assessments. The Maths department has been extremely happy with the outcome of your results and all your efforts and resilience have been noticed. We really hope you have a restful and enjoyable summer holiday and that you come back refreshed and ready for another fantastic year of learning.
