"Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things."
The MFL team has a lot to celebrate from this past academic year and we are very excited about our grand plans for the new year!
MFL has the X factor!
Languages are becoming increasingly popular at Wilmington, as testified by the increased up-take of Spanish and French as a GCSE option. Close to 60 students will progress to become linguists and will benefit from the expertise of a strong team of near or near native speakers, AQA experts and teachers trained in the latest National Centre for Excellence in Language Pedagogy. Students will also follow a new Spanish IB curriculum at 6th Form, an internationally recognised qualification with strong credentials.
Celebrating diversity is core to MFL and Home Languages is also a strong area of development for the team who are offering mock exams in a growing range of foreign languages, and will be developing more home languages sessions next year.
If your child speaks another language and you think the school may be unaware please email Mrs Walker so they can be added to the list to be possible future GCSE candidates.

In tutor time, students completed an exciting cultural journey including exploring the cultures of Italy, Portugal and Germany, gaining knowledge about their foods, language and history, and thereby demonstrating a wide range of IB learner attributes.
Hopping on the digital skills’ bandwagon, our enthusiastic team got training on Adobe video creation, and produced high quality multi-modal resources for lessons, assessments and revision lessons. We also presented the programme to our KS3 students who had the opportunity to prepare their speaking assessments using Adobe Spark and to take part in a competition. The lucky winners won Digital Literacy certificates and Amazon vouchers.
The team is also bridging the knowledge gap for the Year 10’s weekly intervention sessions for Spanish and individualised support, feedback and language practice, which students reported are incredibly useful.
Finally, the MFL team will proudly be presenting our Spanish and French portfolios to local schools on a National HUB day in July, showcasing our work with the delivery of the brand new ncelp pedagogy for languages, born of the latest research into 2nd language acquisition and set to become the approved GCSE programme in coming years.
We look forward to celebrating diversity at Wilmington with you all.
