A message from the Principal
As we approach the end of what has been an academic year of significant disruption, I want to pay testament to how well each and every one of us has continued to show resilience, commitment and determination throughout adversity. We have lots to be thankful for and have learnt more about us as human beings when put to the test. As a community, we have gained more cohesion, developed our expertise in using technology and expanded our skill sets that only develop when ‘up against it’. As we stand on the threshold of a new academic year, we can look forward with a sense of positivity, revitalisation and new beginnings.
Several weeks ago, I wrote to you about Mr James Brant, the new Chairman of Governors from September who will help shape the future of Wilmington Academy alongside the senior leadership team, staff and students, igniting new opportunities and possibilities. With this in mind, I am very thrilled to announce that we have recently been working with a Spanish school in Madrid, laying down the groundwork for more global interactions and networking with the aim of visiting in the future.
Developments with the IB continue to grow as featured in our August INSET days when staff will engage with innovative techniques that have transformed ways of teaching and learning which will be facilitated by a global expert. Alongside international development of teaching, each member of teaching staff will belong to the Chartered College of teaching and the National College. These opportunities demonstrate our investment in our staff to benefit the future of our students.
This academic year we have received the best Post 16 results in the history of the academy and we are confident that our Y11 summer results will be equally positive.
To benefit the health and safety of personnel on site, Wilmington Academy will have enhanced security measures on site through a specialist CCTV system.
Due to the popularity and success of the school, I am pleased to share that we will continue to be fully staffed with specialist teachers that have very high standards. It is pleasing to report that our turnover of staff is very low, demonstrating the sustained commitment to the students and families that attend the school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those staff leaving us for their commitment to the Academy and wish them all the best for the future; Debbie Kennedy - Librarian, Nadia Brice - MFL, Patricia Bravo - MFL, Sheila Ward - Maths, Evan Wry - English and Mustafa Haciosman - Digital Design.
Thank you for your ongoing support and confidence in all that we do at Wilmington Academy. I do hope you have a good summer break and look forward to a re-energised start next academic year.
Mr M Gore - Principal
