Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of another productive term at LAB16, we wanted to update you on the activities and milestones that students have experienced over the past two modules, as well as what's in store for the upcoming term.
UCAS Day
On 22nd January our students had the invaluable opportunity to attend a UCAS day led by a careers advisor, where they received guidance on navigating the university application process. They learned how to explore courses that align with their interests and began crafting their personal statements, setting them on the path to their future.
Universities and Apprenticeships Fair
At a Universities and Apprenticeships Fair held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, our students explored a myriad of post-LAB16 options, engaging with representatives from various universities and apprenticeship providers. This event broadened their horizons and equipped them with insights into the diverse opportunities awaiting them. Additionally, a small group had the privilege of attending an outreach day at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, broadening their academic horizons and developing their aspirations
Student-Organized Events
Our students hosted a lively Just Dance evening in Module Three, which was very well attended. Meanwhile Careers-programme students organised a Valentines event which involved a cake sale, handmade craft items for sale and a Valentines service. These events not only fostered a sense of community but also raised funds for breast cancer awareness, showcasing our students' commitment to social responsibility.
IB Core
Diploma students have started to make progress on their extended essays, meeting with supervisors and outlining their projects, with Science students planning their practicals. Diploma students also embarked on a meaningful CAS project, organising a play at Eastcote Primary School to demonstrate both their creativity and their community involvement.
Next term.....
Mock Examinations
From April 22nd, our Year 12 students will undertake full mock examinations, providing them with valuable practice ahead of their final examinations next April and May..
Diploma Milestones
Next module Diploma students will have their first formal meetings with extended essay supervisors and complete the TOK exhibition, further honing their critical thinking and research skills. Additionally, internal assessments for a range of diploma courses will commence, marking another significant step in their academic journey.
CP Projects
CP students will commence their Reflective Projects, embarking on a reflective inquiry into an ethical dilemma in their Career-Related Study.
UCAS Process
With the UCAS process underway, students will dedicate time to crafting their personal statements and creating their UCAS accounts, laying the groundwork for their higher education aspirations. Personal Development sessions will focus heavily on preparing students for life after LAB16, empowering them to make informed decisions and pursue their chosen paths with confidence.
Taster Day
We eagerly anticipate welcoming next year's Year 12 cohort as we host a Taster Day for all applicants to LAB16, providing them with a glimpse into the vibrant learning community they may soon join.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
