Dear Fawcett Community,
It has been a wonderful term in Fawcett so far. Students have excelled in their efforts to live up to both our academy values and academic standards. This has been seen in the conduct points of the college with the highest number of merits (11949) and lowest number of demerits (3984). We have enjoyed watching year seven students settle into the college and begin their Secondary journey in such a positive way. Moreover, it has been our pleasure to work with year eleven as they prepare for their upcoming GCSE examinations. It has been a joy to watch them demonstrate their resilience and scholarship in what can be a challenging time. In the last week in particular we have enjoyed some amazing food cooked as part of the food technology practical exam.
Fawcett Team
Our tutors are an integral and invaluable part of Fawcett. Not only do they deliver our personal development curriculum, but they also provide irreplaceable support and care to all of the young people we have the privilege to serve in Fawcett. They, as always, have done a fantastic job of shaping and guiding your child over these last two modules. A continued thank you also to Ms Crowley and Ms Lawrence who are so key in their contributions to the life and wellbeing of students in Fawcett college.
Attendance
We would like to offer congratulations to all of those who have strived to attend every day and shown resilience in this regard. Fawcett college has a huge number of students who demonstrate continual scholarship by ensuring they are in lessons and working hard. This is reflected in the college having the best attendance percentage this year of 94%. Particular mention goes to:
7D (97%), 8A (96%), 9D (95%) and 11D (95%) who have the best attendance in their year groups across the whole academy.
To celebrate this we had pastries on the plaza this week for the following students with 100% attendance and punctuality: Jai, Alexusmae, Olivia, David, Archie, Abigail, C.J, Anjali, Eliza, Oscar, Alfie, Razvan, Adam, Felicity, Najiah, Max , Avina, Aaron, Lucy, Thomas, Ashwin, Paloma, George, Kye, Aniya, Tequan, William, Martins, George , Abdi, Jacob and Ophelia. The correlation between attendance and attainment is one of the strongest in educational research. A child with no absences has, on average, a greater than 80% chance of achieving 5 good GCSEs (at grade 5 or above), including English and Maths.
Well done also to the following students who have the highest merits per tutor group:
7A - Jai & Xander
7D - Zara Ijax & Maxima
8A - Eliza & Valentina
8D - Riley & Lois
9A - Max Campbell & Najiah
9D - Alex & Lucas
10A - Jess & Rosie
10D - Kye & Jack
11A - James & William
11D - Oliver & Sahil
This term has also provided many opportunities for student engagement. We all enjoyed the school production of Annie last week. It was amazing to see the outcome of many hours of hard work over the winter come together. Well done to the following Fawcett students for their performances: Amelia , Harry, Zara, Eliza, Juliette, Felicity, Allegra, Amelia, Leyla, Jackson, Zara, Sophie, Valeria, Zanib and Hetty. A shout out to Ms Wood, 7A’s tutor, for all her hard work in preparing the students.
Children's Mental Health Awareness Week
Ran between 5-11th February 2024, with the theme “My Voice Matters”. Students marked this by completing various activities in tutor time, one of which where they were asked to write what they enjoyed doing, where they see themselves in the future and ways in which they can support themselves and others with their mental health. All students thoroughly engaged with the task and Fawcett college looked amazing!. A big thank you to Ms Ford- Jenkins who organised and led this activity!.
Maths Feast
The following students also participated in LAT’s first MathsFeast competition:
George, Millie, Alexander & Amiya
The Maths Feast is a Trust wide competition with all of the Trust secondary schools present and LAB came 4th in the competition! It was a fantastic day out enjoyed by all.
World Book Day
On top of that we had World Book Day. There were many fantastic costumes on show with the Language and Literature departments Wizard of Oz theme outstanding.
The college team joined in the fun attending as Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week!
The 18th-22nd of March was Neurodiversity Celebration Week! Fawcett SEND team delivered an assembly focusing on raising awareness for neurodiversity and celebrating neurodiverse strengths. A key take away from the assembly was the importance of always being kind and respectful to others around us, particularly if their brains work a little differently.
The Fawcett SEND team has been a constant presence in college spaces over the last academic year, supporting SEND students with warmth and encouragement.
Our team includes:
Ms Spiers; Ms Uhrie; Ms Richard; Mr Evans; Mr Medley
The SEND team work in a variety of lessons across year groups to deliver 1:1 support as well as small group interventions across the week.
Lastly, congratulations to Fawcett’s Mr Tebbutt on the birth of his baby boy, Henry!
We wish you all a happy Easter break, with plenty of revision for the Year 11s and look forward to supporting you through the last two modules of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that Module 5 starts on Monday 15th April and lessons start at 8.30 a.m- students should be on site ready to learn by 8.20 a.m.
