The Holly Tree is not currently apart of any watchlist, or conservation status program. They are listed as not extinct, and not in danger. This is mainly in part due to their sturdiness, and ability to grow and reproduce quickly. They also are very competitive with other trees, such as maples and oaks, in drawing in nutrients at a much faster pace.Â
The Holly Tree can contract a variety of diseases, that can be very damaging to the tree, and ecosystem. According to RTEC Treecare Pythium and Phytophthora root rots are common diseases of a wide range of woody ornamentals, including most kinds of holly. Generally, Phytophthora root rot is much more damaging in container nurseries than the landscape.
