One of the first sightings of a black cherry tree was in North America in 1629. It is native to the eastern United States. It has also been found in Mexico. The tree stops growing on the line of mountains in the Rocky Mountains.

Another thing black cherry trees are used for is cough medicine. They take the sap to syrup from the bark of the tree and people used to use it as a home remedy.
