Course Description: The General Education Work Experience Program (GEWEP) is a work-based learning option for students age 14 and above. The program consists of 150-600 hours of paid, supervised work experience, supported by the equivalent of at least one classroom period per week of related instruction. The course is designed so that high school students who already have jobs can use their work experience as credit towards graduation. Students who complete the weekly classroom component and log hours (as evidenced by a company generated paystub) at their workplace will earn the following credits, 150 hours at a workplace will be entitled to half of a credit, 300 hours a full credit, 450 hours 1.5 credits and 600 hours, 2 credits.
In addition to working at your job, students are responsible for completing two small assignments each week that relate to working in general, or their specific job and periodic in-person check-in meetings with either Ms. Dyer or Ms. Nelson.
Course Content: The course is divided into Modules with assignments delivered through Google Classroom.

1 Time Management and Productivity (prioritizing, deadlines, goal setting)
2 Workplace Safety and Labor Laws (what to do when, what can I do at my age)
3 Professional Communication (writing emails, verbal/non-verbal communication)
4 Workplace Etiquette and Professionalism (dress code, hygiene, attitude, reliability, ethics)
5 Teamwork, Collaboration and Personality Conflicts (conflict resolution, feedback, reflections)
6 Problem Solving and Critical Thinking (case-studies, scenario planning)
7 Technology and Computer Training (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva basics, cyber security)
8 Financial Literacy and Workplace Math (budgeting, savings, investing, taxes, etc.)
9 Workplace Benefits (Scholarship, Tuition Assistance)
10 What’s Next for Me? (Career and/or College Exploration)
