Year 1

What an amazing term of learning opportunities we have had.

We started the term by learning all about animals. We identified a range of common animals and sorted them into the five animal groups.

Our learning provocations then steered the learning opportunities to inquire about dinosaurs, their habitats and the time they were alive on Earth. We learnt about animal diets and how different animals adapt to their environments to survive. We then visited Maidstone Museum where we learnt lots about Iggy the Dinosaur and how Maidstone has changed over time. We learnt all about the town's history as well as how it has evolved to look like it does today. From this, we created our own News Reports to showcase our knowledge about the changing town. We then wrote to Iggy to tell him how Maidstone has changed over time.

Our final learning experience took us to The Natural History Museum in London! Here, we identified the famous Maidstone Slab- the fossil in which Iggy was actually found. We explored all of the Museum's exhibits and also took many different experiences away with us which will then shape our Inquiries for the rest of the year.
