Central idea - The Environment Influences Living Things

Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry into the Life Cycle of Animals

This module we have continued to develop our knowledge and understanding of animal life cycles. We focused on the lifecycle of a chick and a butterfly.

Line of Inquiry 2: An Exploration of Animals and their Habitats

This module we have carried on exploring different animal habitats. Our focus was more on minibeasts and we made a whole class book based on different minibeasts, labelling them and drawing their different habitats.

Line of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry into our role in caring for the planet

This module we have focused on looking at how we can protect the sea from litter and nets. We focused on Nelson the whale and how he got caught in a net. We did some role-play and thought about how we would feel if we were a sea creature stuck in a net. We then took that learning further by creating drawings and posters to show how to care for our planet. We also spoke about the little things we can do in our classrooms to protect the planet, like turning taps off and switching lights off when not in the classroom.

Our Learning in Discovery Class

We enjoyed the A-life health workshop this term, where we participated in finding out about the importance of oral health and making balanced food choices.

We used our research skills to find out and write about what we need to care for the new chicks. We fed back to the rest of the class about what we had learnt, so we could share our new knowledge  with each other.

We have been exploring number bonds to ten, and even used mini chicks to help us with this. We used part whole models, and began to explore sharing objects into three parts this term.

Our Learning in Apollo Class

We have loved holding and caring for the chicks in our school. It was very exciting seeing them go from eggs to chicks.

We loved welcoming our lovely mummies in for an afternoon tea party. It was lovely to celebrate you all!

We have been exploring how to create different patterns using various colours and shapes.
