Central Idea: Living Things Play an Important Role in our Lives

Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry into Living Things in our Natural World

As part of this line of inquiry the children learnt about the different types of animals that we find in our world. We looked at where they lived, what they looked like and how we could group them. For example; spots or stripes or four legs or no legs. The children also looked at the animals in Spring, looking at the names of the Mother and the baby. For example; matching 'Cow and calf' or 'sheep and lamb'. The children have been developing their thinking skills to enable them to communicate their ideas with others.

Line of Inquiry 2: An Inquiry into Why Plants are Important in our World

As part of this inquiry the children learnt about lots of different types of plants that they can find around them. They learnt to use words such as 'stem, leaves, petals and roots' to talk about plants, as well as planting their own seeds to create their own cress heads in the nursery.

Line of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry into our Role in Caring for the World

As part of this line of inquiry the children looked at how we can care for the world around us. We looked at the nursery garden, and spoke about how we could create bird feeders to encourage more birds into the nursery garden and do our part in caring for the world around us.

The children have also enjoyed caring for the different animals we have had in the nursery this module. We have welcomed; frogspawn, caterpillars, chicks and have grown our own seeds!
