Year 3

Our Central Idea this term was:  People make choices on how they use Earth's resources.

Through this inquiry we learned about climate change and how our use of the Earth's resources for energy can impact the environment. We participated in an online workshop with the World Wildlife Fund as to how climate change is affecting the animals that live in freshwater and the oceans.

We decided that we needed to look at our own environment and did a litter survey. We created a tally of the different litter we could see on the playground and recorded this by creating a bar chart on sheets. We then designed and displayed posters reminding the children in our school against littering. A week later we did another litter survey and noticed that the amount of litter had reduced.

We researched different lifecycles and even watched caterpillars change into butterflies.  We used our knowledge and research into levers and pneumatics to create a moving animal lifecycle.

Year 3 researched the meaning of vulnerable,  endangered and critically endangered and how this is used to make decisions on conservations. We researched different animals and how endangered they were. We used this  knowledge when we went to Howletts and learned more about how some charities, such as Howletts, are working hard to 'rewild' some animals. In fact, they are waiting to complete the paperwork to move their herd to Africa.

In art, Year 3 looked at the art of Nils-Udo and created our own versions of his 'nest art' and then created our own art using resources from the local area.

Well done to Fortune and Pazazz. You have worked really hard and we wish you every success in Year 4. Have a wonderful summer holiday!
