Year 1

Wow, what a year we have had in Jubilee and Enterprise Classes!

The children have been so open minded within their learning and have taken risks to try new things and strategies.  They have become resilient learners that bounce back when making mistakes.

The teachers in Year 1 are super proud of their successes!

Inquiry this term...

Transdisciplinary Theme: Where we are in Place and Time

Central idea: Discoveries help us understand the past.

Lines of inquiry:

Reading Rainbows

Here are the books that Year 1 has read within their inquiry cycles.  Each book helped the children to understand a different aspect of toy making from past, to present and to the future.

Enrichment learning to Penshurst Place

To further develop their understanding of toys from the past, the children enjoyed a trip to Penshurst Place. They explored the main house on a guided tour, seeing various artefacts and finding out really interesting facts about life in the past. The children then went to the toy museum where they were immersed in the history that they saw from old toy trains to porcelain dolls, vintage toy cars and card games.

Inquiry Play Sessions:

The Year 1 children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring toys through play. They have worked collaboratively to make their own spinners, ball and cup game and board games.
