Sciences

Next week, we are celebrating Internet Safety Day on 7th February. Mrs Mansfield talked about Internet Safety Day during our school assembly on Monday and we will be continuing to look at this topic next week across the school. We are also celebrating Women and Girls in Science and the fantastic discoveries and work that they have done over the years. These two celebrations will be shared with the children on Monday in an assembly.

The children in Year 5 have been learning about life cycles and comparing the life cycles of different animals. They created 3D life cycles to communicate their knowledge. Patrick wanted to know if all fish laid eggs and all mammals had live young.  He shared with us that swordfish give birth to live young and the duck-billed platypus and echidna are mammals that lay eggs! We have also inquired into how migration routes and destinations can be an important element of the life cycle.

Children in reception have been finding out about the life cycle of different animals and what humans can do to protect their habitat. They have been exploring animals living in the polar regions and how they are adapted to live there as well as identifying the features of a giraffe! We even used different materials to make our own giraffes and had a competition to see which class could make the tallest giraffe!
