World Book Day

Next term we will be celebrating our love of reading as part of World Book Day. This year the theme is 'You are a reader'. As part of this staff will be sharing a little about them as readers during the day.

Below is a fantastic line up of books for World Book Day and allows children across the entire school to select a book.

Getting hold of your £1 book

Children will be given a voucher for World Book Day so they can experience choosing one of these books for FREE from their nearest bookseller. Your local bookseller might be on a high street or could be a supermarket. The book tokens are valid from Thursday 16 February to Sunday 26 March 2023

Phonics

Reading is an essential skill for all children's academic success and has many social and emotional benefits. As part of this, early reading is critical and so in EYFS, KS1 and through KS2 we teach children how to read and spell using phonics.

Last week, Year 1 held a phonics session for parents to come along and learn with their children. It was nice to see so many parents attending this. Below I have attached some of the phonics code that children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 will have encountered.

There is a brief sound clip video that supports parents and reminds children of the sound. This will help when hearing your children read at home.
