During this line of inquiry, the children were learning to explore their own emotions upon joining the nursery. We used the text 'The Colour Monster' and 'My Monster And Me' to learn to name different emotions and begin to understand how we can do things to change our emotions. For example; if we are feeling hungry we can have a snack to make us feel happy again.
The children have also been busy exploring the different areas and routines of the nursery setting as well as developing their sharing skills and ability to take turns with those around them.
During this line of inquiry, our nursery children were learning to spot emotions within those around them. For example; "My brother is happy because he went to the park".
We have also been developing the children's knowledge of how we can change our emotions during the day. For example; if they see a friend feeling sad they could play with them to help them feel happy again.
Now the children have become more settled into the routines within the nursery, we have begun to introduce our PYP learner profile attributes. These are the key attributes we believe every child needs to become a lifelong learner. Within the EYFS, these are linked to Julia Donaldson characters so that pupils are able to easily identify them.
We have introduced being a 'Communicator' (like the ladybird in 'What the Ladybird Heard'), a 'risk-taker' (like the Gruffalo), being 'balanced' (like the witch in 'Room on the Broom') as well as being 'reflective' (like Stick Man in the story). The children enjoyed exploring how they can show these attributes in their play at their own level of development. For example; they have begun to make marks on paper to communicate their ideas, like the ladybird in the story.
We are really proud of how the children have settled this term and are looking forward to continuing to support their development next term.
We would love all children to collect autumn leaves, acorns and conkers during the half term break to use within the classroom during the first week back when we will be exploring the seasonal change of autumn.
We hope you all have a great half term break.
