Dear Students, Families, Staff, and Friends,
We’d like to wish all of you a very Happy New! The start of the 2018-19 school year has been an extremely busy one, as the fall began with full enrollment in both our preschool and school-age classes! We are currently waiting for NY State approval to open a 7th school-age classroom, for intermediate-age students with needs in both RAAVE and MOVE areas, with a focus on communication, behavioral supports and mobility.
Below are some of the highlights from the past few months:
· Recognized by the National Association of Special Education Teachers as a School of Excellence for demonstration of exceptional dedication, commitment, and achievements in the field of special education.
· Building improvements including installment of new flooring in all school-age classrooms, and replacement of countertops, cabinets, and blinds in all classrooms.
· Creation of a school loaning library for students, utilizing donations of books from local school districts, and other donors.
· Our special events committee brought many fun, on site events for students including therapy pigs, fire prevention presentation, News 10 Storm Tracker, hot air balloon, dance presentation etc...
· Christmas performance by the Guiding Step Dance Troupe performed by children of all ages.
We’re also looking forward to continuing a productive, busy, and fun-filled year. Here are some examples of what’s in store:
· School pictures by Adirondack Portraits to be scheduled in February.
· A performance in March by Opera Saratoga of “Pinocchio”, through the Opera-to-Go Production which visits more than 50 public and private schools throughout the greater Capital and lower Adirondack regions of NY, Western Massachusetts, and Southern Vermont.
· The “Kick-Off” to our 3rd Annual Special Olympics in February for school-aged students. This gets everyone involved in the spirit of the Olympics, and begins the training and preparation process for actual Olympics which is scheduled for June.
· Annual reviews are beginning for both school-aged and pre-school students. Teachers and clinicians will be busy updating IEP’s and meeting with parents.
· The start of an on-site parent support group!
· And much more to come in 2019….. stay tuned!!
