About Our School

Our School

The Langan School at Prospect Center is a school where children with varying levels of ability, ages 3-21 choose to receive their education. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, the school is a satellite site of The Langan School in the state’s capital, Albany. Both schools are run by The Center for Disability Services, a major provider of all types of services for individuals with disabilities in New York’s capital region and beyond. The Center for Disability Services acquired Prospect Center in 2013 and since then has made tremendous changes to both the school and therapeutic curriculum. We now house 6 preschool and 6 school age classrooms onsite as well as a satellite Head Start collaboration with Queensbury Central School District, totaling over 135 students. We have roughly 90 staff who support our students from 28 different districts daily, ranging from Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties.

Our Education Model

The Langan School at Prospect Center is comprised of various classroom styles and ratios to fit the needs of our students. All of our school age classrooms are staffed at an 8:1:3 ratio. We have a variety of preschool classrooms including two 12:1:4 self contained, two 8:1:3 self contained and two 10:1:2 integrated. We also house Stepping Stones Nursery School whose students attend our integrated classrooms. We utilize Unique Learning curriculum as the cornerstone for our classrooms with a full curriculum library of supplemental supports to our teachers. Prospect believes in the power of technology and has provided each classroom with multiple iPads, interactive computers and most recently, Smartboards! All of our classrooms fall into either our RAAVE (Responsibly Addressing Autism Via Education) or MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) programs in which we have on site trainers in both areas that provide continued support to our classrooms. We have a Vocational Education program that houses over 15 jobs, both around the school and in the community. With that, we recently launched our first work program in our local community!

Prospect provides all of their own related services including Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy with additional services provided in Adapted Yoga, music groups and a therapy dog. In addition, we have an extensive aquatic therapy program with two designated aquatic therapists. We are able to contract with outside providers for Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Teacher of the Deaf and Orientation and Mobility needs.

Our Special Events

As we are all aware of the power of having fun, Prospect prides itself in our commitment to do just that. We have frequent events such as school dances, field days, winter carnivals, holiday celebrations and last year held our first Special Olympics event in collaboration with the NYS Special Olympics and local law enforcement. We invite families to all of our events and will be creating a Spirit Committee for 2018 that will be continuing to expand on these opportunities for our students.

We also believe in the power of training our staff and offer many onsite trainings in the areas of sensory integration, oral motor needs, mobility and vision limitations just to name a few. We provide opportunities for all of our families to attend these trainings with our staff in order to increase consistency between home and school.
