Language Acquisition

At Landmark International School, language is a window to the world. Through the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework, our curriculum focuses on learning in, about, and through French and Spanish. We seamlessly integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing into every lesson, shifting from foundational fluency to deep conceptual understanding and real-world application.

Driven by the MYP’s commitment to global citizenship, we bring languages to life through immersive, hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Immersive Experiences & Global Connections

• Residential Trips Abroad: Unforgettable cultural immersions, including to Normandy, France (exploring historic WW2 sites, visiting a traditional snail farm, the Bayeux Tapestry and a local market) and Barcelona, Spain (visiting La Sagrada Família, collaborating with a local Spanish school, experiencing Flamenco, and a hands-on tapas workshop).

• Local Culinary Workshops: Bringing global flavours close to home, including an authentic Spanish-language Arepa making workshop at a Colombian restaurant right here in Cambridge.

• Global Collaboration: Active pen-pal projects with a partner school in Madrid, allowing students to build authentic, real-world friendships and language skills.

A Celebration of Linguistic Diversity

• In-School Degustations: Regular French and international food-tasting events throughout the year.

• The Arts & Performance: Music is a universal language; our students learn songs from around the globe, culminating in a spectacular yearly concert celebrating international music and instrumental talent.

• International Day: A vibrant, school-wide celebration featuring cultural workshops and a global food festival.

Inclusive Language Support

We are proud to be a multilingual community and offer dedicated pathways to support every learner:

• Mother Tongue/Home Language Lessons: Specialised instruction to maintain and develop students' native languages (including French, Italian, Spanish, German, and more).

• English as an Additional Language (EAL) Lessons: Targeted, expert support to ensure students learning English as a second or additional language can fully thrive in our academic environment.
