For years 7, 8 and 9 we follow the MYP IB framework supported by the white rose curriculum. Below details our curriculum, which provides a conceptual and inquiry driven approach based on the strands of knowledge, problem solving, communication and real world application of mathematics. Within these units, we will use the white rose scheme of work to support a strong foundation in mathematical knowledge.
"The study of mathematics is a fundamental part of a balanced education. It promotes a powerful universal language, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that contribute to the development of logical, abstract and critical thinking... Mathematics in the MYP is tailored to the needs of students, seeking to intrigue and motivate them to want to learn its principles. Students should see authentic examples of how mathematics is useful and relevant to their lives and be encouraged to apply it to new situations."
During each unit, students have the opportunity to work on Nrich activities which are designed to promote problem-solving skills. Pupils are encouraged to work collaboratively, develop their mathematical reasoning, build their perseverance and apply their knowledge and skills to unfamiliar contexts. Linked is an example of such challenges.
