French

Language is central to who we are at Landmark International School. By developing a shared love of language in all its forms, we promote respect and tolerance for the diversity not only present within our school, but across our community and the wider world. We aim for all our students to become confident, decisive and articulate users of language, and through our holistic programmes of study, and integrated approach to learning, we allow them to make connections, express themselves clearly, and develop life-long skills that will support them in becoming global citizens.

At KS3 we focus on fostering a love for learning French, about French and through French. Phonics is a key part of teaching in Year 7: if pronunciation is good, comprehension will quickly follow.  We teach the four key skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing, and students are able to practise all four areas in most lessons.  Classroom teaching takes place through a variety of means including the Tricolore Total textbooks, online resources and annual competitions.  Opportunities for cross-curricular links are explored where possible, for example viewing a French film about WWII during a combined History and French unit.  Schemes of work are available to see below.

At KS4 students build on their knowledge by continuing to study to IGCSE. Through residential trips abroad students have the opportunity to use their language skills in an authentic context, developing confidence and conversational skills.  The CIE IGCSE is used, which assesses students in each of the four key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.  Classroom teaching takes place through a variety of means including the CIE textbook, the Tricolore Total textbook, online resources and annual competitions.  Schemes of work and syllabuses are available to see below.
