MYP Design

MYP Design gives students the opportunity to be creative, develop practical skills and learn how to solve real-world problems through design. Students work through the design process, learning how to research, develop and communicate ideas, make and test solutions, and reflect on how their designs could be improved.

Across Years 7- 9, students complete a variety of practical and creative projects. In Year 7, this includes designing and creating a cake for a bake off style competition, followed by a charity bake sale, before exploring sustainable fashion and upcycling. In Year 8, students develop their own chocolate brands and packaging, create school merchandise, and take on a community-focused design challenge with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. In Year 9, students explore food packaging and branding through Cookies with a Cause, design and promote their own clothing or merchandise, and finish the year with a larger-scale theme park design project.

Students use a combination of digital tools and hands-on practical skills, developing their creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and organisation along the way. The aim is for students to become confident designers who are willing to try out ideas, learn from mistakes and create solutions that have a clear purpose.
