This is a one-semester course for 8th graders. It is an interactive introductory course for students brand new to programming that teaches the foundations of computer science using the programming language Python.
Unit Titles:
Beginning in Computer Science
Number Calculations and Data
Making Decisions (Selection / If Statements)
Repetition with Loops
This course uses a different classroom environment called Edhesive. Treat this environment like you normally treat Google Classroom--where you’ll complete all assignments and receive grades. This could be an online course, but you'll have an on-site teacher in the room every day. You can learn at your own pace and ask your teacher questions whenever you need to.
Students are given all of the assignments for the week by Monday, so they will learn to monitor their time and keep up with their work. Having said that, I have created a general "Pacing Guide" to help students pace themselves throughout the course.
Each lesson builds on the previous lesson (or multiple lessons). Though there are different units, they all go together so if you don't understand Unit 1, you cannot jump to Unit 2. You must go in order (top-down) and complete all assignments in order to continue with the course. This means it's very important to ask questions when you don't understand something.
