Gender Identity How one “feels” or “thinks of themselves. For example “I feel like a girl” or “I feel like a boy”. This internal idea of oneself may or may not match the “sex” they were assigned at birth.
Gender Expression The way a person expresses their “gender identity”. We most often express our identity through our appearance, dress, and behavior.
Biological Sex The sex assigned at birth based on physical characteristics.
Cisgender / Cis A person whose internal sense of their gender are the same as the sex they were assigned at birth.
Transgender / Trans A person whose internal sense of their gender does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth.
Nonbinary A person whose gender identity does not align with one of the two “binary” (two gender options only) genders of female or male.
Intersex Refers to a variety of physical conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that does not seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male.
Gender Expansive/ Describes people that identify or express themselves in
Gender Non-Conforming ways that are different from typical societal expectations.
Gender Dysphoria Distress caused by the discrepancy between one’s gender identity and one’s assigned gender or sexual characteristics.
Gender Congruence A feeling of harmony between one’s gender identity and one’s gender assigned at birth and social expectations for that gender.

Pride Center
Apart from the event side of things, there are also plenty of services that are available to the LGBT community. Pride Center supplies a range of medical care resources, including HIV prevention, addiction therapy, dental and eye care, mental health counseling, and pharmacists. They also offer domestic violence support, transitioning resources, training and education, in addition to offering protection for sex workers.

Gay & Lesbian Youth Services
The Gay & Lesbian Youth Services has a drop-in center available to LGBTQ and all youth ages 14-21, servicing over 50 schools across Western New York. They offer resources such as mental health therapy and refuge for runaways via their partnership with the Compass House. They also offer wedding services with a list of churches willing to assist any couple looking to take the leap. They help bisexual, intersex and trans youth, as well as people of all ages (parents included!). They also offer scholarships for universities.
