Assistant Dean of Residence Life
Welcome to King’s residence! Our Housing and Residence Life teams are thrilled to welcome you to our campus community in the fall. We are eager to create opportunities for you to make new friends, find community, and learn outside of the classroom! As someone who lives and works at King’s, I will be one of your neighbours this fall. I’d like to share a little bit about myself and the experience I bring to our community: I am a white, queer; non-binary person and my pronouns are they/them. I live at King’s with my partner Brooke and our lovely cat, Pyewackett.
I grew up in the beautiful Annapolis Valley here in Nova Scotia before moving to Halifax to attend university. I currently have two university degrees under my belt, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Bachelor of Social Work. I have over twelve years of experience working in residence life, and I am thrilled to utilize my social work education and my residence life experience to help lead and support our residence community.
Our residence life office is comprised of myself, our Programming and Community Engagement Coordinator and our Don Team. Our goal in residence life is to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for you to live, learn, and grow. Together, we hope to connect with each of you and help support you through the joys and challenges that come with being a university student. There will be plenty of opportunities for us to connect closer to move in day. Until then, I would like to wish you all and incredible and safe summer, I look forward to getting to know you more in September.
All the best,
Dons are a live-in group of leaders and role models who work hard to build community and provide support to their residents. A Don Team member is assigned to each Floor or Bay and is responsible for creating opportunities for their community to connect with one another. Dons are trained in peer support and crisis intervention, and they play a crucial role in responding to incidents and emergencies in residence. Each night, a Don is on call and available to support residents through a wide range of situations. If a resident finds themselves struggling for any reason, reach out to a Don!
Student Patrol plays a crucial role in our residence community as they work to ensure that campus nightlife is safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. They are trained to encourage and ensure that students uphold our Residence Guidelines and Community Standards. It’s a unique approach to community living where students support their fellow students to maintain a safe and enjoyable experience. If a resident needs a Residence Guidelines issue addressed, patrol is ready to help!
The King’s Housing team is responsible for the physical and virtual spaces of residence on campus. They manage residence applications, room assignments, safety & security, and general upkeep of the residence spaces throughout the year. They work hard to create a physical environment that is as comfortable, enjoyable and safe as possible.
Do you have a question about residence applications or room assignments? Want to book a common room or classroom to study in? Contact the Residence & Conference Services Coordinator, Jakob Burke, at residence@ukings.ca or 902-222-8106 to connect if you have any questions!
Jakob will be able to direct any and all residence requests to the appropriate partner on campus.
