KSU Orientation-Week 2024
The O-Week schedule for 2024 is live!
KSU Orientation-Week 2024
Located on unceded Mi'kmaw land, the University of King's College is subject to the Peace and Friendship Treaties (of 1726 and 1760/61), which did not deal with the surrender of lands, and instead "set terms for co-existence" (Naiomi Metallic 2019) for everyone in Mi'kma'ki.
Kjipuktuk, or the Great Harbour, existed as a gathering place long before European colonization and we recognize it, and all of Mi'kma'ki, as Mi'kmaw land. Mi'kma'ki and many other territories, especially on the east coast of so-called canada, are often referred to as unceded, meaning they were never surrendered, but stolen.
We are all treaty people.
In a quiet corner of Kjipuktuk (halifax) is a vibrant academy, attended by students who spend their days pouring over ancient tomes written in "dead" languages, or engaging in spirited debate. These students know well the life of an outsider, but have found themselves (and this academy) hidden among the weeds.
"The o-week theme this year is meant to reflect how small King's feels but that it holds many mysteries and maybe even a little bit of magic."
King's manages to be both understated and grand. With ornate façades and quiet corners, the small student body (less than 1000 students!) can be found reading and writing, dancing and singing, living laughing and loving.
King's students might be defined in the most general terms, by a desire to learn and to understand. We welcome you and hope you can find a safe home here.
The purpose of this website is to get you a little acquainted with King's. From your union to campus supports, we hope to show you a little slice of life at King's.
If you have any questions or concerns please email orientation@ksu.ca.
See you soon!
Hi everyone, my name is Amy (she/her), and I’m one of your Orientation Week Coordinators this year! I’m entering my final year in September, my favourite study spot on campus is the King’s Library, and I’m a Scorpio.
My favourite memory from my own Orientation Week was the first night hot chocolate social, where I met my best friends! This community & campus has welcomed me, encouraged me, and challenged me. I can’t wait for you to experience the magic this fall.
I'm Aideen (they/she) and I am so excited to meet you all! I'm a gemini and I care so much about o-week! Myself and the other coordinators & ksu exec are working to make this year's excellent.
This is my last year at king's, and I'm so lucky to be a part of this student community. I came into my own here - my friendships, academics, and politics were challenged and strengthened by this place. I learned what I cared about, and more importantly I learned how to care for others. I hope you find community here, and I hope it makes you brave.
Hey everyone, my name is Bella (she/her) and I'm one of your Orientation Week Coordinators this year! Some facts about me: I’m starting my second year this fall, my favourite study spot on campus is the first floor of the King's Library, and I'm an Aries. I chose to come to King's because of the tight knit community and unique programs Kings’ offers. I’m looking forward to meet you all in the fall!
