The Galley is the canteen located in the Day Student’s Lounge, serving coffee, treats and grilled cheese between your classes from 9am to 5pm. You can expect to see your upper year peers hanging out here, plus your profs and King’s community members grabbing a coffee to go. Throughout your 4 years, you and your peers may work here or even manage the space, because the Galley is also student owned and operated under the King’s Student Union!
The Galley’s mandate means we always try to provide local, ethically sourced, healthy and affordable food. We partner with some of the best bakeries in the city, for offerings including Tart and Soul’s tasty bialys, 24 Carrot’s to-die-for pain-au-chocolat, and Stone Hearth’s hearty bagels.
You can always count on a Galley grilled cheese sandwich to get you through that pesky mid-lunch tutorial, and a Java Blend fair trade coffee to wake you up in time for FYP lecture at 9:30am sharp. We’ve got plenty of gluten-friendly, vegetarian, and vegan options, and we’re always looking for ways to better serve our community, whether it’s brewing up a new coffee blend, or supporting a food justice movement that students feel passionate about.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us about any questions you may have! You can get in touch with the Galley’s student General Manager at galley@ksu.ca and our Community Engagement Manager at galleycommunity@ksu.ca . Be sure to keep up with us on Instagram (@thekingsgalley) and Twitter (@UKCGalley)!

As a King’s student, you have access to the HMCS Wardroom, our beloved, members-only campus bar and lounge. Since its founding in 1979, The Wardroom has been the social center of the King’s community. This will be where you go to see live music, debate the merits of the day’s FYP reading, play a round of pool, or finish writing that paper! You can also expect to celebrate Wardy holidays here, like dressing up on Hallo-Wardy, ringing in 2024 a week late on Two Years Eve, and celebrating finishing your classes at Last Class Bash every semester. If you have a band or an idea for an event in the Wardy, you can always send an email to our student Promotions Manager at wardroompromotions@ksu.ca so we can make it happen.
The HMCS King’s Wardroom serves a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. We're always rotating seasonal brews from local breweries on tap, including a tap of kombucha. We love local and unique offerings, from 2 Crows Space Words tall cans, to locally made non alc ginger beer from Propellor Brewing.
But you may be saying, “Dear Wardy, that all sounds great, but I’m not 19 yet! I guess I’ll see you next year…” To which we say, “Dear First Year, you are so totally welcome here, even though it's a bar!” The Wardroom holds a Special Premises license that means that underage King’s Students are welcome to come hang in the Wardroom and enjoy all our events, as long as they remain sober. You’ll get your super-cute wristband at the door and then enjoy live music, finish your reading, or dance the night away in the Wardy, even during alcoholic service. Because you’re a part of the community, and so this community space is yours, too!
If you have any further questions about the Wardroom, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our General Manager at wardroom@ksu.ca or our Hospitalities Coordinator at hc@ksu.ca. We’d love to talk more about our offerings, our license, or our harm reduction practices so you feel safe and welcome in your campus bar. Be sure to follow us on Instagram (@thewardroom), Twitter (@KingsWardy), or Facebook (HMCS King's Wardroom) so you don’t miss out on all the fun.
At the King’s Co-op Bookstore we make sure you’re covered for everything you need during your studies at the University of King’s College! We stock all your required course books and we’re also a community bookstore offering selected works of fiction, philosophy, history, graphic
novels, and more. Looking for some King’s merchandise or some cool gift ideas? We’ve got that too! As a co-operative, we’re owned and operated by students and members of the community.
We know how expensive course books can be and we work hard to keep the prices as low as possible. For your Foundation Year Programme reading list, we sell the whole set in an easy one click purchase that works out to be cheaper than any monolithic and unethical online retailers! We also offer free delivery in Halifax and a simple flat fee of $5 for shipping to anywhere else in Canada. If buying them all at once is a challenge, you can also buy them in stages to spread the cost out over the entire year. Get the right books, in the right translations, at the right time. Let us take the stress out of getting your reading list so you can focus on more important things, like reading them all!
