The King’s Students’ Union (KSU) provides a health and dental plan designed specifically to serve the needs of students. The plan is administered by Green Shield Canada, and it provides coverage for extended health services such as prescription drugs, counseling and therapy, emergency transportation, dentist appointments, eye exams, and more.
Our health and dental plan is coordinated by our Services and Campaigns Coordinator. For any questions about the plan, you can reach them at coordinator@ksu.ca, 902-429-3399, or in-person at the KSU office in ‘the link’ (look for our sign on the door with the blue logo). You can also check out ksu.ca/health-dental for more information on coverage details.
All full-time students are automatically enrolled in the plan, but students that have alternative coverage (through their parents, guardians, spouses, or employment) may opt out of the plan through their Dal Online accounts. The opt-out period runs from September 1st to 17th. Students who successfully complete the opt-out process will have the health and dental fee ($377.16 for the 2024-25 academic year) credited to their student account.
The KSU Health and Dental Plan also includes a legal assistance plan, which grants you access to free 24/7 telephone legal advice, free review for short legal documents, and access to a discounted network of local lawyers. The plan offers expert advice for most major types of law, including family, landlord and tenant, employment, criminal, immigration, tax, identity theft, and civil litigation. You can reach out to the Services and Campaigns Coordinator for more information on student legal assistance.
In addition to the KSU Health and Dental Plan, international students are also automatically opted in to the Dalhousie Students’ Union International Health Plan. This plan provides coverage comparable to provincial health insurance available to Canadian citizens. It covers items such as general doctor’s appointments and emergency care.
