Semester 2 (Room 1 & 2)

What is going on in Papa Mālaaʻo Art?

moʻolelo as inspired prints

Haumana listen to moʻolelo for inspiration to create a leaf print and painted image

Nā Meli /Bees - a 3D project

Haumana work with 3 D shapes and forms using recycled egg cartons, newspaper, paper plates and styrofoam to create Pūnana Meli (paper mache beehive with bees. Students make their own mini hive with their egg, larvae, pupa and adult worker bee. Haumana also practiced pollinating flowers with their bee puppets

Haumana engage in activities to understand the habitat, life cycle, and importance of bees.

Ask your child:

  • What are the 3 types of bees in a hive?
  • What are the responsibilities/ kuleana for each type of bee?
  • Why must we protect and promote bees in Hawaiʻi?

Bees were send home within their mini hive. Life cycle of a bee is displayed.

Haumana make bee puppets and simulate pollination using crushed fruitloops.

A Kākou Project - A group collaborated mural

Haumana worked on a collaborative art mural using "Ke Ao Nani" as the inspiration for their visual.

"We" and not "me" is emphasized as each haumana rotated on the designing and painting of this beautiful mural.

Big truck shapes

Haumana create painted paper using a variety of textured tools. Focussing on geometric shapes of Triangles, Squares, Rectangles and Circles to form Construction and transportation trucks. Beautiful

Nā Waiho'olu'u - Colors

Secondary colors - Orange, Purple, and Green are "mixed" using primary colors of paint and oil sticks.

Mouse Paint

Three mice explore jars of primary paints...what happens next is a beautiful messy blend of secondary colors!

Our haumana expore color mixing using a "Double Loaded Technique"

Nā Laina - Linear Lines

Vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines are identified and used to create compositions with paint. Haumana look and identify linear lines of buildings in their environment.

Let's build pasting skills

Haumana practice cutting and glueing skills using the "Dot..dot...not a lot..lot" method of drops of glue around the cut shapes.
