Apōpō means tomorrow.
You can say "Ka Kite Apōpō" which means see you tomorrow.
Pātai means question.
You can say "I have a Patai" or "he patai taku?" which means are there any questions.
Mārama means understand.
You can say "I mārama" or use the questions "ko mārama koe?" which means do you understand?
Menemene means smile.
Showing people you menemene is a great way to be friendly.
Papamā means whiteboard.
You can say "Kei te te kaiako tuhituhi i runga ki te papamā" which means the teacher is writing on the whiteboard.
Or
"Haere mai, e noho i mua i te papamā" which means come and sit in front of the whiteboard.
Hīkoi means to walk.
Remember to Hīkoi around your classroom.
Māhi means work.
You can say "kei te mahi o te rā?" which means what work are you doing today?
Turituri means noise or to be quiet.
You can say "turituri koutou" which means be quiet everyone.
Ae means yes, and Kao means no.
You can use these words to answer simple questions someone may ask you.
Hararei means Holidays.
You can say "Kia pai to Hararei!" which means have a good Holiday!
Matariki is the celebration of the Māori New Year. It is a time to come together, celebrate, eat, reflect on past memories and look towards to the future. Our school is going to celebrate Matariki by creating 4 Korowai.
