Description of learning
These tasks are designed to:
Support students' in organising their thinking
Support students' to reflect on their learning
Support students' to make connections
To represent their data effectively, the boys engaged in explicit teaching on four types of graphs: column charts, line graphs, pie charts and double bar graphs. Through this instruction, they learned the strengths and weaknesses of each graph type. Armed with this knowledge, they evaluated the effectiveness of each graph through a 'pros and cons' list. This critical evaluation enabled them to determine which graph would be best suited to represent their specific dataset, ensuring that their findings would be accurately and visually communicated to others. The students utilised Canva to create their graphs, further enhancing their data representation skills and adding a creative element to their work.
By combining their their independent investigations, data analysis, and graphing skills, the boys developed a multifaceted understanding of the LGAs in New South Wales. They gained insights into the diverse socioeconomic landscape, recognising how various factors influence different regions. This phase of the inquiry empowered the boys to not only gather and analyse data but also to think critically, make connections, and develop a more nuanced perspective of their local context.
