Dear Parents/Guardians of Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children,
Welcome to the home stretch of your child’s Primary learning journey. As our school Mission Statement concisely states, our combined vision is to equip and prepare KISU students for their role in an increasingly challenging, globally minded and rapidly changing world.
We are excited to deliver a creative and engaging curriculum through a cross curricular approach which ensures that all children in Key Stage 2 gain great knowledge, transferable skills and a secure understanding of their learning. The team deeply considers children's individual needs and plans meticulously to personalise learning to ensure that every child is challenged and extended and supported in order to succeed. In Key Stage 2, children delve into deeper, trickier and more complex abstract concepts and out job is to help all children develop a skill set m(or toolkit) that enables them to succeed.
Built into every lesson, every day, is explicit reference to the ten learner qualities that underpin the IB Learner Profile. It is important that Key Stage 2 children know what it means to be a good learner to be able to be a good earner! Have confidence in us to ensure that all children are well rounded academically, emotionally and socially. We role model the qualities of critical thinking, inquiry, being principled, knowledgeable, reflective, balanced, open minded, through excellent communication skills and a caring approach. When children feel happy and safe, they can they thrive. We are here to support all aspects of all children's development.
Now let's focus on the academics! Our staff are highly competent and confident to assure that our proficiency will guide your child seamlessly from Year 3 to Year 6. The environment is a positive culture of continual growth and development. There is no seal on a child's attainment, the sky is the limit. Children sometimes surprise themselves but they don't surprise us because with the right help, guidance, support and encouragement, we know that they can do it! Then, when they do reach the sky, we help them to strive for the stars!
We appreciate and value your support and are always here to help, so please reach out!
Kind regards,
KISU Key Stage 2 team.
We are off to to a great start in Year 4! The year 4 inquisitive learners jumped right in asking all the right questions and settling into the Year 4 routines and expectations. They quickly realized that Year 4 is going to be lots of work but also lots of fun! From creative writing tasks to building LEGO time machines to teleport us to Ancient Greek times, we sure have been maximizing the 2 weeks that we have been in school. There is lots of engaging activities and assignments for us to look forward to this term and we are ready to tackle them all!
In Year 5, we commenced our academic year by going on a trip around the world to experience how wonderful it is. Everyday we get to discover a new aspect of our journey in every subject, from here, we decided to do some Lego pixel art to represent some of the 7 Wonders of the World. We have agreed that these are not the only splendid places on Earth, so keep an eye on us as we vote for an even newer version of 'The 7 Wonders of the World'. Ms. Farah.
We have been learning lots of exciting new things in 6MT over the past two weeks. We have especially enjoyed learning about Myths and Legends in Literacy and linking that to our History topic - The Romans. We enjoyed learning how the Romans had lots of different gods, including one for cattle worms. Who knew? We've also been learning about how to de-escalate digital drama and the class have shown great maturity when discussing how to avoid getting into difficulties online.
