Last Sunday (27/08/2023), in a heartwarming display of community spirit and a commitment to making a difference, KISU took part in the Rotary Cancer Awareness Run. This event was not just about running and walking; it was a powerful symbol of our school's dedication to creating awareness about cancer in the wider community. It brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members, all united by a common goal - to stand up against cancer and make a positive impact.
Why in the Rotary Cancer Rub a Noble Cause? Cancer is an arduous foe that has touched the lives of countless individuals and families around the world. It's a disease that knows no boundaries, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. This week students were reminded to show empathy to those around them. So how did KISU show empathy? We bought 109 kits contributing 3, 270,000 Ugandan shillings! We laced up, showed up early in the morning and run a 5/10km race for Cancer! Thank You KISU for the unified effort. Over the Years, The Rotary Cancer Run has become a symbol of unity and purpose for our school community. Students, teachers, and parents come together to organize and participate in the event. It was inspiring to witness the solidarity and determination of everyone involved.
The run was not just about physical fitness but also about raising awareness and funds to support cancer research and treatment. More importantly, Our Diploma students use this as an opportunity to showcase their CAS skills by working directly with the wider community. By taking part KISU demonstrated that we can take significant steps towards creating a world with less cancer and more hope. The Cancer Awareness Run has left a lasting impact on all those involved, reminding us that when we run with purpose, we can make a difference!
Thanks to parents that joined School Director, Mr. Lee, for the Parent Workshop on Thursday 31st August. There were many important discussions about the KISU approach to digital citizenship, and strategies for Internet and device use at home that align with our school approach. The session slides are above. Our Parent Workshop Programme will be published very soon. If you would like to suggest a theme for a workshop, please email schooldirector@kisu.com.
Next summer, Mr. Lee intends to run an exciting expedition to the unique island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Open to our current Year 10, 11, and 12 students (must be 15 or over at the time of departure), this is a character building, life changing expedition of a lifetime. Week 1 takes place in virgin rain forest, working with scientists to explore and collect important data about this unique environment. Week 2 is ocean based, with students completing the PADI Open Water Diving course, before working with scientists on coral reef surveys.
This really is a one in a lifetime trip, suitable for budding scientists and adventures alike. More information to follow soon, including a presentation from Operation Wallacea, the organisation which runs the expeditions.
