Welcome to the IBDP!
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
My name is Daniel Grimshawe and I have been working at KISU since August 2019 as the Secondary Art teacher. As of August 2023, my role has changed and it is with immense pleasure that I introduce myself as the new International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator and College Counsellor.
As I step into this new role, I am filled with excitement, knowing that I will have the privilege of working with talented students, dedicated educators, and supportive parents. For the academic year 2023-24, I will still be teaching KS4 Art and Design and IB Visual Arts.
The International Baccalaureate programme is renowned for its rigorous curriculum, emphasis on holistic development, and encouragement of multiculturalism. Through its unique and balanced approach to education, the IB programme not only prepares students for success in examinations but also instils a love for learning and a lifelong curiosity about the world.
One of my primary goals as IB Coordinator is to ensure that each student receives a well-rounded education that nurtures their intellectual, emotional, and social growth. I am committed to providing consistent support to our students throughout their IB journey, guiding them in setting and achieving their academic and personal goals. I believe that education is a collaborative effort and I encourage open communication between parents, students and staff. Together, we will celebrate the achievements of our students, address challenges with resilience and create a supportive community that enables everyone to thrive.
To our returning students, welcome back! Your continued dedication to excellence and commitment to personal growth inspire us all. This year will undoubtedly bring new challenges and exciting discoveries, and we look forward to witnessing your continued growth as leaders and academics within our school community.
Throughout the academic year, I will be scheduling parent meetings to inform you about general guidance on the IB, the university application process and several other topics. I have had the pleasure of working closely with a lot of parents at the school. However, if we have not yet met, I look forward to getting to know you all.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at: ib.coord@kisu.com
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Grimshawe
IBDP Coordinator & College Counsellor

IB Subject Specific Training
In order for our teachers to be the best possible educators, we ensure that they attend relevant, subject specific training from IB approved providers.
Over the next two months, we have 9 staff members who will be undertaking IB training courses for their subjects. These are: Mr Akweri (Chemistry), Ms Kibuuka & Miss Ellis (English), Mr Buzare (Physics), Mr Buckley (Biology), Mr Sam (Business Management), Mr Wintle (Maths), Mr Wagaba (Music), Mr Wilson (School Director). All of these training courses are provided by experienced IB educators and will ensure that our staff maintain up to date with syllabus changes and subject content.
Thanks to all our staff for their dedication and commitment!
IA Deadline Calendar
At the start of DP2, students receive an IA (Internal Assessment) deadline calendar. This calendar lists the important deadlines for all subjects and core components of the IBDP. A copy of the IA Calendar is below:
Uniform and behaviour
Since the start of the academic year, I have been really impressed with the majority of our students' attitude and commitment. Every day, I witness several merits being awarded and teachers commending students on their efforts.
Sanctions:
In Assembly this week, your child was briefed about our Behaviour Policy. This included both the demerit and detention system that we have in place.
Step 1 - Verbal warning
Step 2 - Moving the student seats
Step 3 - Final verbal warning
Step 4 - Demerit issued
If a student receives more than 3 demerits within a week, an after school detention will be issued on Mondays from 3:20-4:30pm. A notification of your child's detention will be emailed to you at the latest on Saturday morning.
Uniform:
This week, the majority of our IB students are smartly dressed and adhering to our uniform policy. However, there are still a couple of students who are wearing inappropriate items.
Our uniform shop is fully stocked and is open during the following times: 7:30am-8:45am and 2:15pm-3:45pm Monday-Fridays. The uniform shop is also open on Saturdays from 9am-1pm.
Last week, I sent an email to all parents/guardians that detailed the sanctions for inappropriate uniform. Here is a summary:
Step 1- Demerit
Your child's form tutor will issue a demerit and explain what part of the uniform is incorrect.
Step 2 - Sent home
If your child returns to school without the correct uniform, they will be sent home in order to get changed. Ms. Jolly from the Secondary office will call you to collect your child. Alternatively, parents/guardians could bring the correct uniform to school and your child will be able to change on campus.
We understand that there may an occasion where your child cannot wear uniform due to unavoidable circumstances. If this is the case, please can a parent/guardian email their form tutor to explain. Your child will then be excused for the day.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the uniform policy or its enforcement, please do not hesitate to contact me at ib.coord@kisu.com
Thank you very much for your continued support!
