Dear Parents/Guardians of Year 1 and Year 2 children,
Welcome to Key Stage 1 and to the next chapter of your child’s education at KISU. We are thrilled to be the school of choice for your child, and privileged to play such an important role in helping your child to further develop in all curriculum areas including their personal, social and emotional needs. Please know that our experienced and dedicated KS1 team around your child has every child's happiness, safety and well-being prioritised as we endeavour to qualify them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to see them well set up at the end of KS1 to transition smoothly into Key Stage 2.
As mentioned by the Early Years team, the learning philosophy in Early Years is play-based and up until this point, your child has had lots of freedom to choose their own activities and move between different purposeful tasks set up on offer to help them achieve particular learning objectives. Please note that child-centred learning is also the approach we embed in our teaching in Key Stage 1 in order to challenge children to critically think and problem solve, question others and themselves, wonder, justify, explain, reason, and consolidate learning through teaching others.
Our standards are high as are our expectations of ourselves as teachers and of pupil outcomes. We pitch teaching and learning high to help your child to exceed the Key Stage 1 end of year expectations and with great communication between home and school and with your full support, your child will achieve their very best. We look forward to planning and implementing a creative and engaging Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum for your child and helping them to make great progress during their time in Key Stage 1. We look forward to meeting you in person on Saturday 2nd September 9am at the 'Meet the Teacher' information sharing session.
Kind regards, KISU Key Stage 1 team.
Year 1 students recently undertook a project to create posters for missing pets, an exercise that did much more than just enhance their artistic skills. Crafting these posters demanded the use of fresh vocabulary, introducing them to a range of new words and phrases, enriching their vocabulary. Moreover, it gave them an avenue to bolster their communication skills, as they detailed descriptions and conveyed heartfelt pleas. But learning wasn’t just restricted to the academic; it was fun-filled too. The children thoroughly enjoyed devising imaginative tales about how their pets went missing and the adventurous journeys that led to their eventual discoveries. This activity, blending creativity with vocabulary expansion, proved to be a delightful amalgamation of fun and learning.
Maths is All Around Us. Year 2 students embarked on a maths scavenger hunt that was not only a source of immense fun but also an enriching learning experience. Set against the backdrop of playful challenges and puzzles, the activity allowed the children to delve deep into mathematical concepts in an interactive way. What stood out was the camaraderie it fostered among the students. As they navigated the hunt, teamwork was paramount, leading many to collaborate with peers they hadn't interacted with before. This not only fortified their problem-solving skills but also kindled new friendships, demonstrating that learning can be socially rewarding.
The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time filled with new faces, new challenges, and the promise of growth and learning. We're thrilled to report that our Year 3 students have embraced this adventure with open arms and are settling beautifully into their new routines. Our day begins with bright smiles and enthusiastic greetings as students arrive at school. The morning routines in Year 3 are designed to foster independence and responsibility. From hanging up their bags to organizing their materials, these young learners have quickly adapted to the expectations of their new class.
One of the highlights of Year 3 is the journey into more complex subjects. From delving into the world of Adventure Stories in English to exploring the mysteries of Place Value in Mathematics, our students are on a thrilling quest for knowledge. Their eagerness to participate in class discussions, ask thoughtful questions, and express their creativity through writing and problem-solving is truly inspiring. In Science, our budding scientists have been exploring the fascinating world of rocks. They've engaged in hands-on experiments to investigate properties like permeability, durability, and density. It's remarkable to see their curiosity in action as they uncover the secrets of the natural world around them.
Year 3 students are embarking on exciting reading adventures. With their reading diaries in hand, they're developing a love for literature and expanding their imaginations with each page they turn. Our library is abuzz with their enthusiasm for exploring new books, and we encourage you to join them on this literary journey at home. As we continue this academic journey in Year 3, we're excited about the progress and growth that awaits our students. We'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all parents and guardians for their support in helping our young learners adjust to these new routines and experiences. P.S. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as our Year 3 adventurers continue to explore the world of knowledge and discovery!
