The Force of Gravity
The Force of Gravity
Fourth Class examined the force of gravity versus air resistance. They also looked at how the weight of the play doh affected the speed of the fall.

Investigating inertia
Investigating inertia
Fifth Class were investigating inertia and energy transfer using marbles. They rolled one marble on a pathway towards another marble to see what happens. They discovered that the rolling one stops and second one begins to roll. Then they tried it with more marbles.

Balloon Rockets!
Balloon Rockets!
Fifth Class were investigating forces. In pairs they estimated and measured how far the different shapes and sizes of balloons would travel.

Second Class were investigating how far a straw rocket could travel. They discovered that if you hold the rocket for a few seconds after you begin blowing into the straw it travels much farther!

Next they added food colouring, followed by alka zelzer tablets. This released a gas, creating a lava lamp effect.

Parachutes
We made parachutes using plastic bags, string and a lego man. We let them off to see could they fly.

Floating and Sinking!
Floating and Sinking!
First and Second Class used bananas and oranges to learn about floating and sinking. We explored ideas of sinking an orange without the human forces of pushing and pulling. One student came up with the idea of putting the orange into a sock with a stone to force it to pull it down to the bottom.

Colour Wheel
Reversing the rainbow. We made rainbow colour wheels using compasses and protractors to make 7 equal segments. We tried to spin them as fast as possible to see what happened. When they went really fast you could see white.
