David’s decade-long experience with the National Parks Conservation Association’s California desert program includes working as a field representative, program manager, and now as the director of California Desert and Wildlife programs. In this role, David works on policy, legislation, media, community building, and connecting desert voices to decision makers. He led protections for tens of thousands of acres of sensitive desert lands from development, and supported the designation of three new national monuments totaling 1.8 million acres, including a new national park service unit. David is a published author and photographer who co-developed the Tortoises Through the Lens program to teach desert youth about the desert through photography. This resulted in a published book of the students’ work about the desert tortoise, which was recently printed in Spanish. David formerly worked in the fields of wildlife biology and environmental science. He sits on the boards of several desert-based organizations.
