Chile is a world leader in enacting MPA’s, but it has not been able to generate effective management for these areas, which can be placed as internationally recognized “paper park” (Petit et al, 2018). Based on the principles of a circular economy the project aims to develop a management plan for the Piedra del Viento Marine Sanctuary using a triple bottom approach methodology while fostering market based solutions as an effective mechanism once is adapted to social and cultural context. The project activities required first to share a common conservation vision among local stakeholders, using open standards for conservation methodologies, I plan to generate a bottom up approach in which the local community recognize that a sustainable market based solution requires its participation and empowerment. Secondly, I look forward to develop a business model case in order to connect local products (ex. Seaweed) directly with international consumers increasing product prices through traceability and evidencing sustainable practices. Third the model requires to reach a common agreement in which producers agreed to reinvest a fee in the MPA’s management and monitoring system.
