Choose any of the following tasks which will earn you one KMS Bacc Knowledge point.

9.1 Biology Heart Disease Pamphlet

Make a leaflet (such as those shown in a GP clinic) informing the public of the causes of heart disease. You need to provide information on how lifestyle and genetics contribute towards the disease and how we can live healthy lives to reduce our chances of developing it. 

9.1 Biology Cooking with Enzymes

Research the different ways enzymes are used in real-life e.g in the food sector and in industry. Create a poster which clearly displays your findings. 

9.1 Chemistry Chemical Symbols

Produce a poster or news article on the topic of the history of the use of chemical symbols. You could investigate symbols used by alchemists and how these developed or changed into the symbols we use today. 

9.1 Chemistry Disaster with Measurements

The Air Canada Flight 143, commonly known as the Gimli Glider had to land early due to a mix up when calculating how much fuel they needed. Research how the mix up happened and the importance of using correct units in calculations. Present your findings as a news report - this could be in an article or a video. 

9.1 Physics Famous Faces

Research a STEM job and write a job advert for a company looking to recruit a person to do this job.

9.2 Biology Heart Treatments

Research different treatments for cardiovascular disease. Create a fact file of your findings containing pictures. You will need to describe the underlying causes of the disease and a detailed explanation of how each treatment works. 

9.2 Chemistry Reaction Rates

Investigate how temperature affects the rate of reaction. Mix together baking soda and white vinegar and observe the results. Then gently warm white vinegar and repeat the experiment. Discuss your findings and try to explain using an appropriate theory. Remember to take photos. Write up your results in the form of a scientific investigation using titles such as, hypothesis, equipment, method, etc.

9.3 Physics Building a Water Wheel

In this activity you are going to be building a water wheel (which could be used to generate renewable electricity). You can experiment with dropping water from a greater height or with greater force to see if it affects how quickly the wheel moves. Take a video of your water wheel in action.
