List some products in your house that may contain chemicals (not household cleaning chemicals). Research if the companies use animal testing when making these products.

Research how one of the following elements was discovered: oxygen, phosphorus, hydrogen, radium, or one of your own choosing. Produce a poster with your findings. 

8.1 Chemistry Metals Reactivity Mnemonic

Research the reactivity series of metals. Come up with a mnemonic to remember the order and present it in an interesting and colourful poster. 

8.1 Physics I could do that job

Research a STEM job and do a fact file on this career 

8.1 Physics Looking Around the Corner

Research how a periscope works. Produce an information leaflet or poster to explain how it works.

8.2 Chemistry What happens if my squash is too strong

Investigate how concentration of blackcurrant squash affects the absorbance of light. Use the light sensor on your phone and an app like Arduino Science Journal, shine a torch through squash of different dilutions and record the amount of light that reaches the sensor. Plot a graph of your results and summarise your findings. For extra challenge, discuss the variables in your experiment, including independent, dependent and controls, plus how you could improve the experiment. 

8.2 Biology Animal Testing verses Medicine Development

You are a researcher who has developed a new medicinal drug ‘Shrinkazine’, which has the potential to shrink lung cancer tumours when inhaled directly into the lungs via an inhaler. Imagine a recent ban on animal use for medical research is preventing you from using animal tests, how could they test these products without using animals? 

Present your argument as a written report or film yourself doing a speech

8.2 Physics Magnetic Treasure Hunt

Use a magnet to test which materials around your house are magnetic. Write your experiment up, including photographs to show your experiment.

8.3 Biology Growing Cress Heads

Grow cress seeds and monitor their progress in a laboratory report. Include photos of each key stage of their growth. Stretch yourself by completing additional research to explain what is happening at each stage.
