6th Grade
Still Life Drawings
The 6th grade students learned many different techniques of drawing such as: drawing the outline of the object, drawing details inside the object and shading in the object. The sixth grade also learned a variety of ways to add value and form (3-D) to their drawing such as (contour lines, cross hatch, smudge and scribble). The students then chose a still life object that they would draw out using four different styles to show value: Shading with pencil, pointillism (repeating dots with a marker), scratching on scratch art paper and oil pastels (adding color). 6th Grade
Ceramic Slab Project
The students learned a different clay building technique called Slab. The students kneaded and flattened a piece of clay out by hand, without the use of any tools. After they had flattened their slab out they used another clay technique called carving, in which they carved out shapes and images into their slab. The students then built walls around their slab to make a cube, cylinder or rectangle. The students used wire tools, needle tools, modeling tools, fettling knives, ribs and ceramic sponges to create their design on their slab.

6th Grade
Sheet Metal Patterns
The students have created many different patterns that they have carved into a piece of sheet metal. The students are performing an old technique of bending and shaping metal called: Repousse. Repousse or metal tooling is a metalworking technique in which a bendable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side. The students used a variety of wood tools, modeling tools or the end of a marker to shape their metal.

6th Grade
Wire Sculpture
The 6th grade students created a three dimensional object out of different size wire. They created it from different gages and colors of wire. They used many different techniques of wrapping wire with pliers and their hands to create their metal sculpture. The sculptures needed to be interesting all the way around (no dull areas).

6th Grade
Impressionism Painting
The 6th grade students learned how to create an Impressionism painting. The students learned about the Impressionism movement and what techniques made this movement so unique. The sixth grade students chose an image and tried to put their own spin on what that artist had created. Impressionsim has a few things that the students had to be sure they used in their painting: Bright colors, No water, Value (lights and darks), brush marks and no solid colors. The students learned how to mix many different colors as they were creating their painting. Impressionism is famous for thick paint, brush marks and the most famous impressionist painter is Van Gogh.
