As mentioned on Day 1, Virtual Rooms can be a powerful tool when implemented with PURPOSE and INTENTION. Some questions to consider when considering designing a Virtual Room are:
What is the end goal/purpose in creating the Virtual Room? What should students take away from their exploration?
What are meaningful resources or tasks that can be integrated into the room exploration?
How is the room designed to be accessible to the learning needs of all learners? How is UDL leveraged? Are visual cues used to promote natural exploration?
What are the expectations for how students will use the room? How will students navigate the virtual space?
What are resources that can be included in the room? How can I leverage other tools to enhance the design and usability of the room?
How can you provide a way for students to give you feedback on your room or respond to content?
We will dive into these over the course of this year's EdTech Cheer, but it is important to start thinking about them as you begin planning and designing your own room.
Explore the Virtual Room below and think about how you might use a room like this type of room with your students. A theme was used as the delivery vehicle for the content in this room - what would you identify the learning purpose/content of this room to be?
Starting today, you will have the opportunity to take what you learned and create your own Virtual Room. Each day your work will build upon the previous day and at the end of the course, you will have a Virtual Room you can use with your students.
🧠 On Day 1, you were tasked with thinking about a topic for the content of your room. Start solidifying your idea as the work you will continue on from today forward will build upon that content.
💻 Background - Adjust your background from Day 1 if necessary.
🖼️ Using the Google Image Search within Google Slides (Insert → Image → Search the web), add any windows or doors you would like in your Virtual Room. These help provide the illusion of a room.
🎯 Add a focal point to your room. This is the point where the eye is generally drawn to first and can be a starting point for students to begin their exploration or a future link that you would like to make sure they explore first. Your focal point could be a TV, window, couch, door, white board, bulletin board, or any other object. (This is something that you will later link with something you want as important content!)
