Reading Foundational Skills: Kindergartners will learn to recognize and name letters, associate sounds with all letters as well as long and short vowel sounds, isolate and pronounce the initial, middle and final sounds in three phoneme words (CVC words), and read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.

Reading Literature: With prompting and support, Kindergartners will retell familiar stories, including key details, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story, and ask and answer questions about key details in a text. Students will actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
