On Remote Work and Work-Life Balance
LIS 60040 (Summer 2021)
This project involved a fictious scenario in which I, as the assistant director of an organization, selected a topic of research related to an area which our organization needs to address, and then prepare a memo for my director detailing the results of my research and recommendations for steps we might take to move forward in addressing the need. For the project I chose the timely topic of remote work and its impact on work-life balance. Preliminary research included locating relevant resources and preparing an annotated bibliography. Creating the memo included synthesizing and summarizing the research findings, identifying two possible broad organizational goals related to the topic, describing possible objectives that could be implemented in collection with each goal, and identifying potential positive outcomes for stakeholders.
The lessons learned via this project connect to my program’s third learning outcome:
“Critique and synthesize research and identify appropriate research methodologies to solve problems in the field.”
The project also reflects the following ALA core competencies for librarianship:
· Foundations of the Profession: The techniques used to analyze complex problems and create appropriate solutions.
· Administration and Management: The principles of effective personnel practices and human resource development.
