"Dayton Metro Library:
An Outstanding Institution"
LIS 60040 (Summer 2021)
For this project, I selected an institution to nominate for a fictitious “Outstanding Institutions” award (in this case the Dayton Metro Library). Preliminary work involved researching the organization’s website, annual reports, strategic plan, and other information and completing an “Institution Snapshot” document. This document includes examples of the organization’s impact on its community and its efforts to meet and anticipate emerging trends and needs. The second part of the project was preparing a video of a presentation in support of my nomination of the organization.
This project serves as an example of my program’s third learning outcome:
“Analyze and engage in the changing cultural, educational and social roles and responsibilities of librarians/information professionals and the environments they work in within the global society.”
It also connects to the ALA’s core competencies under the category “Foundations of the Profession,” including:
· National and international social, public, information, economic, and cultural policies and trends of significance to the library and information profession.
· The importance of effective advocacy for libraries, librarians, other library workers, and library services.
· Effective communication techniques (verbal and written).
