PLAN --> IMPLEMENT --> ASSESS --> REFLECT
IDENTIFY --> COLLABORATE--> PITCH --> REFINE
Our modules are based on either:
Team teaching: 2 teachers responsible for 2 separate groups or
Collaborative teaching: 2 or more teachers teach, instruct and mentor the same group of students together.
Modules produce better outcomes when the team:
Plans together
Works to Teacher strengths
Support each other
Teach together
Mentor and support students together
Assessing together
Key steps to follow when designing a topic using an integrated curriculum
Use Pathway schemes to identify the key subject concepts and subject competencies from each curriculum area
Collaborate to explore linked contexts to deliver those concepts and competencies
Consider the order in which the content will be shared with students,
how the students will be provided with access to the knowledge identified,
how the critical subject concepts relate to each piece of content, and
the types of learning activities you will use to explore the subject concepts and content
Take a look at how you will assess the topic to identify how bringing together the subjects has deepened the learning or provided a cognitive advantage.
Use the module planning sheet to find groups of subjects - family groups or fixed groups- that you have been allocated as a teacher.
Family groups can change pairing throughout the year
Fixed groups remain with the same pairings throughout the year.
Produce one Junior or senior planning sheet for each module to be taught throughout the year.
Use the module planning sheet guide to aid you with this process
Add the name of your module and a link to the planning sheet on the relevant tab of the Module planning 2024 - staff spreadsheet
Names are due by 28th July 2023
Page one of planning sheets by 11th Aug 2023
Pitching is used as a way to "test" and improve modules
Modules which did not meet annual targets must be repitched so that changes can be consulted on with staff and students. These modules are those where fewer than 50% of students got 8 credits in Year 12 or 11 credits in yr 11.
The HOPs support the planning teachers in pitching the module to three students, DP curriculum, Strand leader Others and Strand Leader Community. The pitch should be based on why the module should run and the benefit to student outcomes. The module planning sheet ( page1) is all that is needed for a pitch.
Once the basic planning has been done and all pitching is complete then the in-depth planning begins. Some of this is done the year before ( page 2) but most (page 3 onwards) is completed the year of module delivery once the students are known.
Use the Module planning sheet guide to know what to fill in and use your scheme of work as basis for planning.
