Design your learning task(s) around an integrated big idea/problem. Once you identify the Learning Areas that naturally support this learning, you can start to design your assessment task(s). There are many ways to engage in task design, we will outline two options here: Integrated Task Design and Generic Task Design.
Identify the learning outcomes and context for your course. Examples for this can be seen on the Learning page. These should be designed around a integrated big idea/problem that is engaging, student centered and addresses the learning needs of students.
Next, browse through the NZQA Achievement Standards to see what standards naturally align with the learning and context.
Be sure to consider ALL subject areas and standards for this - keep your options open.
The NCEA Matrices and Standards will be required in this process. Please follow the links below to access these.
Select the standards that naturally align to the learning. The number of standards you put together will direct the process of task design, as it becomes increasingly difficult to write an integrated task for more than three standards.
This is where you, in collaboration with others, design the teaching and learning resources and experiences that are needed to ensure rich learning takes place. In this stage you may want to consult/work with:
Local Iwi / Community groups
Industry connections
Outside subject specialists
Opportunities for workshops
The learners themselves
Tertiary Providers
The list goes on...
