Each six weeks, your student will earn two grades in art. One grade is for conduct, and the other is for skills.
Conduct: In the art room these are the rules/expectations for conduct: 1) Be Safe, 2) Work Quietly (at a library level), 3) Focus on Art, 4) Show Respect at all times. I give three reminders for minor behaviors, on the third reminder students are asked to sign the book. If the behavior is harmful to others or the intent is to hurt or harm others (with words or physically) than a reminder is not given and it will be an automatic book sign and/or referral to the office.
There are 4 grade possibilities on the Conduct Grading Scale- ESPN
- E- Excellent: A student who abides by all student expectations 100% of the time.
- S- Satisfactory: A student who abides by all student expectations most of the time. A student may have received a “think sheet” or may have signed the book during the six weeks one time.
- P- Progressing: A student who is struggling to meet conduct expectations on a more frequent basis. A student may have received two or more “think sheets” or received a TRM (Teacher Report of Misconduct) and has signed the book two or more times within a six weeks.
- N- Needs Improvement: A student who is not meeting conduct expectations. This grade is given if a student has received two or more TRM forms (Teacher Report of Misconduct), or when administrative assistance has been needed for a severe conduct issue.
Skills: I assess skills based on the following criteria: 1) following directions, 2) using supplies appropriately, 3) being creative, 4) doing their best 5) completion of the project.
There are four possibilities on the Skills Grading Scale (averaged from three grades taken per six weeks):
- M- Mastery- the student masters the skills at 100%. The student uses supplies with age-appropriate skill and is able to work independently to follow directions and complete projects.
- S- Satisfactory- the student masters the skills at most of the time. The student uses most supplies with age-appropriate skill and is able to work independently and follow directions most of the time. The student completes projects.
- P-Progressing- the student masters the skill at 70%. The student uses some supplies with age-appropriate skill and is able to work independently and follow directions some of the time. The student does not complete work.
- N- Needs Improvement- the student masters the skill at or below 50%. The student does not use supplies with age appropriate skill and cannot work independently to complete projects. The student cannot complete projects without one on one instruction.
