About Our Programs

The Co-Curricular program at BPES is designed to teach and nurture the whole child.

In Art, students develop lifelong skills in fine motor development, learn about creating work with quality and craftsmanship, problem solving, team work, gain confidence, and learn the values of tolerance, patience and perseverance. In addition, students study art history and learn about the significance of art as it pertains to American and world cultures, including the role art plays in storytelling, heritage, and historical documentation. In addition, for students who love art and want to spend more time in the art room, Mrs. Hodges offers an art club for 4th graders each fall.

In P.E., students are taught a variety of activities and sports that develop their gross motor development, nurture their health and well-being, promote sportsmanship and team work, and support a life-long love of physical activity. Healthy habits are a huge part of Ms. Cerny's curriculum, including teaching students the value of exercise and a healthy diet. In addition, students who would like to become more involved are encouraged to join the Cupstacking Team, which holds tryouts in mid-December.

In Music, students develop a love of music through a variety of approaches. Students learn about historical and contemporary composers, as well as the role music plays in traditional and cultural heritage in America and around the world. Students learn about the elements of music through dance, song and instrumental instruction. In addition, 3rd grade students learn how to play recorders and 4th grade students learn how to play the ukulele. Additional opportunities for involvement in music at BPE include choir and honor choir, which is for 4th grade students and available through an open audition each fall.

In Theatre, students learn the value of confidence and team work through role play, creative writing, acting, and set/stage design. Students in the theatre classroom study a variety of techniques and learn about the history of theatre from a variety of world cultures. Throughout the year, opportunities are available for a more in depth theatre education during after school programs such as drama team, film crew, and Keller Shake competition.
