School News and Announcements
Key Dates:
Thursday, March 16 & Tuesday, March 21, SAT PreAdministration (students must have Chromebooks)
Thursday, March 23, SAT School Day (students must have Chromebooks)
Note: Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will attend their regularly scheduled classes (which may be relocated to alternate rooms to accommodate testing).
Students in grade eleven have been registered for and will be taking the required state assessment, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023. The assessment will cover English language arts (reading, writing) and mathematics. The SAT emphasizes reasoning with a focus on the knowledge and skills needed for college and career readiness and success. The test also emphasizes the meaning of words in extended contexts and how word choice shape meaning, tone, and impact. In the essay portion, students will produce a written analysis of a provided source text. This year, all testing will be digital.
The only devices students are allowed to use to take the test are school-issued laptops or Chromebooks. They cannot use any other device. All students should plan to have their school-issued Chromebook charged and ready on SAT testing day.
The total testing time will be approximately five (5) hours. Testing for the high school will commence by 7:45 AM and should be completed by 1:00 PM. All students should arrive by 7:40 at the latest to ensure prompt testing. We will allow students to be dismissed (pending guardian permission, or a current open campus form on file) when the test ends (please call 927-4261). Students are not permitted to enter the testing session after it begins.
Additionally, because the College Board does not permit testing to be interrupted for lunch, students should bring a water bottle and snacks to eat during the short breaks. If students choose to remain at school at the conclusion of the test, they can purchase lunch in the school cafeteria following testing.
Students can use SAT Practice through Khan Academy to practice their skills for the SAT. Students should also use the Student Digital Test Preview to become familiar with the testing environment. To preview the digital test you can do the following:
1. Sign in as a guest
2. Select grade (11)
3. Click start digital test preview
4. Click select on the next screen
5. Click start on the second screen
You can assist us in making sure our students do their best work by getting a good night's sleep, eating a good breakfast, arriving at school on time, and not scheduling appointments on testing day.
Should you have questions or concerns, please call a counselor or administrator. Thank you in advance for your partnership with us.
Reminders as the year continues:
Don't forget to keep logging your community service hours, for a minimum of 20 hours. Community Service forms can be picked up in the Guidance Department and returned to either the Main Office or Guidance Office.
Keep up to date with your Senior Project, and reach out to your advisor or Dr. Geraghty if you have any questions.
CHECK YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL - As we near the end of the school year, there will be important information sent to students through their school email about graduation and end of year events.
Due: March 10th, Progress Report #2
Details below as well as found in the Senior Project Google Classroom:
Progress reports are typed and submitted in Google Classroom to your Project Advisor. Progress reports should reflect progress toward answering your Essential Question. The report allows you to think and reflect on what you are doing, where you have been, and organize a strategy for the coming days. It provides physical evidence of your learning. Progress reports should be written with your advisor as the primary audience. Here are some prompts to consider:
What work have you completed? Where did you visit? Who did you interview?
What was the most important thing you learned?
Did you accomplish the goals you previously set? Did they change?
What is giving you trouble? Where can you get help?
What are your goals for the next phase?
